ASSESSMENT
You will be asked about all elements of your child's daily routine, i.e. how they play, how they eat, what they enjoy, what they dislike, how they move, how they interact with others, and what your concerns are.

A clinical examination will be carried out. This will involve observing your child's movements, assessing their muscle tone, their joint range of movement, their play skills, their motor skills, and their neurobehaviour (including visual and hearing attention, interaction and behavioural cues).

A standardised (unless deemed not appropriate) and/or non-standardised assessment tool will be administered too. These may include:

Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination

Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development

Video assessment of functional tasks/play

Sensory Profile 2

Following assessment, a brief account of findings and possible recommendations will be discussed.
​
If indicated, and only with consent, liaison with creche/ pre-school/ school.
​
A comprehensive report will be provided.

Length of assessment: 1 hour 30 minutes- 2hours
​
Cost: €600.
(Most insurance providers cover up to 75% of Occupational Therapy Assessments and Therapy Blocks. It is advised to check with your insurance provider first)

If established in your Early Years OT assessment that your child could benefit from the involvement of other disciplines (for example, Neurology Consultant, Paediatrician, Physiotherapy, Psychology, and Speech and Language Therapy) we will refer (with your consent) your child to these services and work in collaboration with these services in your child's best interest.

Early Years OT are always networking with other Paediatric OT services. If any concerns are highlighted in areas of Occupational Therapy that we cannot help with we will assist you to source an appropriate service for your child.
